Well, it's official, spring is here! Spring break started with a day at the movies, and then a trip to the zoo. Unfortunately, the zoo seemed to be a favorite spring break event for many folks, and it was crowded! But we are not afraid of a few thousand people, so into the zoo we went! A sweet family let us borrow a pediatric wheelchair for Kinnley, which was a life saver! While she walks all through the house on a walker, there was no way for her to traverse an entire zoo. The girls enjoyed the zoo. One huge surprise was when Kinnley agreed to touch a snake that a keeper was showing off. My jaw fell open because she is very afraid of snakes...and personally, my brain is allergic to them. I have zero desire to become friends or even non-enemies with snakes. When the Bible said He would make an enemy between woman and snake, I took that very literally, thank you very much! :)

On Wednesday morning, Jad, Kinnley, and I headed down to Shriners Hospital for Kinnley's second foot surgery. Due to a change in surgery list, Kinnley was moved up on the rotation and they quickly gave her some medication to relax her. They warned her that it was bitter and she made an awful face. A few minutes later, I asked Jad to see if she could have some ice chips to rinse her mouth. The nurses said "no, but she won't care in a few minutes". Sure enough, Kinnley suddenly looked up at me with the oddest puzzled look, as if my face had three eyes or was swirling about. Then she broke into a giggle. Yup, the meds had kicked in!

Kinnley's surgery lasted about three hours. The surgeon was pleased with the result. Her right foot was actually less complex to repair than her left. She lost lots less blood with this surgery, and the open wound on her foot was much smaller. Kinnley slept most of the day and was much more relaxed than the previous surgery. Jad is convinced that this is because she knew what to expect, and I am sure he was right. We were released the following morning and headed back home. Right on schedule, Kinnley's started running a low grade fever. The unexpected thing was Kinnley's reluctance to stand on her left foot. It has been six weeks since her surgery on that foot. I'm sure it is tender. Some of the issue is that the cast had a bend in the knee. It's tough for her to straighten it out, and weak. I made a call to Shriners, and they assured me this is totally normal and she may not hop on it using the walker for weeks. So we are carrying her around and using the wheelchair almost full time. I am SO thankful to have the big girls. They help out with anything I need. Jaci encourages Kinnley to practice standing up on the walker. She made a game of it, seeing if Jaci can stand on one foot and squat longer than Kinnley can stand using her walker. School may be a challenge, but we are thankful they go to a small school. They can always call for Jaci to assist as needed.
